Youghal VIRTUAL Medieval Festival 2021

…celebrating our heritage in music, song, story and nature…

Welcome to Youghal Medieval Festival 2021.
Our world, as you are aware,  is a very different place just now and consequently it was not possible to hold our wonderful annual Medieval Festival at the usual outdoor Medieval venue this year. So…..,rather than let another year go by without Youghal Medieval Festival, and with the help and support of the Irish Walled Towns Network (Heritage Council of Ireland) and Cork County Council, we developed an online programme which we believe will match any of our events to date!
We recommend that you sit back, relax, be amused, amazed  and entertained by song, storytelling and tales of nature that is or 2021 Virtual Medieval Festival.   Watch all at once, or take your time and watch at various stages….watch it when it suits YOU and enjoy!

Pat Smiddy, ‘In Conversation’ at Ballyvergan Bird Hide, Youghal

Pat has become a firm favourite at Youghal Medieval Festival over the past number of years mainly due to his endearing personality and love of wildlife. We are so thrilled that Pat agreed to chat to us about his life’s work and passion as “chief guardian” of our birdlife. Catch an insight into this fascinating world as Pat gets up close and personal in two of Youghal’s Special Areas of Conservation (SAC); Ballyvergan Marsh and The Slob Bank, Youghal.

Caroline Fraher – ‘In Concert’, at St. Mary’s Collegiate Church, Youghal.

Caroline Fraher is one of Ireland’s best kept secrets. Her voice is one of ethereal quality, with rich tones and beautiful expression. It is a voice that is adept at delivering unique interpretations of songs from traditional Irish, classical, musical theatre and contemporary genres. This concert, filmed in Youghal’s magnificent Medieval ‘St Mary’s Collegiate Church’, is something very special. With the mesmerising acoustics of this ancient Church, Caroline delivers the performance of her life. Sit back, relax and enjoy the artist at work.

Pat Lynch, Fox’s Lane Museum – Pat’s Story.

Pat Lynch is one of those rare people. Kind, interesting, sincere and above all a really good soul.   This short film is Pat’s story, where Pat talks about his passion of how he developed a unique collection of ‘household items’ from 1850s to 1950s… In this moving piece Pat pays special tribute to his lifelong partner and wife, Anne. A ‘must-see’ film for all ages.

Pat Lynch – Story Teller  – ‘Katy & The Mouse’!

Pat, apart from being a collector, is one of Ireland’s greatest storytellers. Here Pat, in his own inimitable style, regales his adventure with a very special childhood toy. Hearing is believing!

Pat Lynch and The Old Woman of the Roads by Pádraic Colum

Hear it as it should be recited!
