One day in Youghal – here’s the plan…
Arrive mid morning to get the most of your day. Ample carparking is available at the Nealons Quay car park which is adjacent to Youghal Visitor Centre (P36 VY44) We suggest you pop in there for a quick visit – have a chat with the welcoming staff here who are very happy to up-date you on any special events or activities that are taking place that day. While you are at the Visitor Centre you must visit the Heritage Centre which is housed within the Visitor Centre (entry is FREE). There you will get a general feel for the town, the origin, the history, the tales….the kids will love Tom Thomb’s glove. Now moving on from the Visitor Centre you cant help but see Youghal Clock Gate Tower . You will be amazed and mesmerized by this building and by the fascinating stories as told by “the best storytellers in the world“. We strongly recommend you book a Tour of the Tower! The booking office, Youghal Heritage Tours, is just 2 doors down from the actual tower itself – Be amazed, frightened and amused – its a wonderful hour experience for all the family.
The hunger pangs will begin to set in by now so lunch is on the cards – choices… choices….to-day how about stretching the legs and heading to The Red Store at the north end of Main Street. At The Red Store, you will enjoy a well earned lunch from their varied menu – kiddies menu very much available. Dine by the window of the beautiful bar or in the comfortable outside courtyard area.
After lunch it’s time to bring out the kid in all of us – time to head to the beach. Take a 5 minute drive, or walk to Claycastle Blue Flag Beach to the East of the town. If you are using a kiddie buggie – don’t let the sand worry you – our Eco Boardwalk with its interspersed seating is the answer to your prayers. Bring the buckets and spades and the kids will build their Summer empire for hours on end, mid splashes in the tide. You can just sit back, relax and enjoy…….a day at Youghal Beach is bliss – sheer bliss!
Its the kiddies day out so a trip to Youghal is nothing without a visit to Perks Entertainment Centre. Perks is a 5 minute drive from the Beach and specialises in the art of making fun. It is the largest indoor entertainment centre in Ireland and caters for children all ages. Spend as long as you like here – the children won’t object! Before its time to leave Perks Entertainment Centre, wind down the excitement with a special treat at McPerkies Diner – a genuine Yankie style diner and you will love it.
A day trip to Youghal is a very special family day…… its never long enough …..but so good!.
