A spectacular increase of 6 points has propelled Youghal into the silver medal position at the annual Supervalu Tidy Towns Competition for 2016. The results were announced on Monday 26th September 2016, which saw Skerries, in Co. Dublin scoop the overall top prize.
With a total of 311 points, Youghal topped the poll in Cork County in its category (E, population size 5,000 – 10,000). Speaking about the result, proud Chairperson of Youghal Tidy Towns Committee, Ned Brennan commented: “A 6 point increase at the upper level of the competition pays tribute to the excellent co operation between all the active and dedicated partners in Youghal. Take a bow everyone your hard work is yielding its reward!”
In a detailed report on the adjudication process, judges concluded by saying: “It was a real pleasure to revisit Youghal and to witness the improvements that have been made to the townscape, and the appreciation of the natural environment, that have been inspired and masterminded by your committee”.
Currently sitting only 5 points off a gold medal spot in the competition, a huge effort will be required by the community as a whole to maintain the momentum.
Congratulations Ned and your committee again on a great achievement for Youghal!
