Its back – the date is set and we are so excited. Yes, Youghal Medieval Festival – the “mother and father” of all family fun festivals in Youghal will be taking place in the wonderful St. Mary’s College Gardens & St. Mary’s Collegiate Church, on Sunday August 6th 2023 at the usual time of 12.oo noon ‘til 6.00pm.
Once again, thanks to the generosity of the Heritage Council, Irish Walled Towns Network and Cork County Council, all events at FREE of charge!
At Youghal Medieval Festival you will experience highly charged battle re-enactments, amazing costumes, primitive medieval village living and falconry. The children’s very favourite “The Big Dig” is back by popular demand. “The Big Dig” brings the past to life through practical, interactive experiences in a hands-on learning and fun environment. At the Youghal Medieval Festival Big Dig, children and early teenagers will discover their past using simple tools and techniques. This approach is perfectly suited to the young participants’ natural curiosity and eagerness to roll up the sleeves and explore an excavation site. They learn, in a fun manner, to recognise and log details of ancient artefacts, tools, bones and utensils, thus developing an understanding of Irish heritage, culture and identity.
To enhance the “Big Dig” experience are the self-guided tours and guided tours of the adjacent 12th century St. Mary’s Collegiate Church..All tours, as is tradition on Medieval Festival, will be FREE on the day.
Of course there will be the very fine food stands, to stave away the hunger pangs and the very unique craft market for the special Medieval Festival shopping…
Did we mention the kiddies corner with face painting and arts circle….Its a busy Sunday but its the best Sunday ever.
Mark up your calendar and be part of the fun!
