Textile Roots

….have a chat and share the stories….

Sat 9th April 202215:00 - 17:30

A fun collaborative event featuring:

a. short film
b.  slide show of historical and contemporary images
c.  discussion & audience participation
Presented by Vawn Corrigan.

Creating textiles has always been at the heart of Irish culture. The wool trade and weaving go back to ancient times, and lacemaking and the Aran knit once threw a lifeline to rural communities. Today, artisan textiles continue through the generations in an unbroken thread. Our wonderful crafts continue to inspire and give depth to our lives.

Through the medium of a slide show of contemporary and historical photographs Vawn Corrigan will take you on a journey through our textile roots. Michael Hussey will show his short film ‘The Faces Behind the Lace’ and we will explore local textile heritage. There is a collaborative element to this event so please be in touch if you would like to be involved.

Do you have a Made-in-Ireland heirloom piece? email [email protected] with details or just bring it along for the show-and-tell

Vawn  is the author of many historic, craft and textile articles and two heritage books by The O’Brien Press: Irish Aran and Irish Tweed. She will be signing copies after the event (15€)

This is a FREE event – Registration/bookings may be made via Eventbrite
