Are you a movie buff? Or to put it another way – do you enjoy the pictures?
Have you fond memories of nights at the flicks at The Regal Cinema & Horgans Picture Palace?
If you answer “Yes” to any of the above – this is the weekend for you.
On Friday 9th Nov at 1.30 pm the Regal Cinema will host a special screening of Movie Memories, a short documentary on cinema-going in rural Cork. Take a trip down memory lane and listen to tales of how village halls transformed into picture palaces; hear about school excursions to “holy pictures”; hear about movie stars from
Hop-along Cassidy to Johnny Depp……not to mention the spectacle of Ben Hur at Horgans.
Unlike the days of yore….on this occasion you can live just like the movie star and enjoy a cocktail in the wonder Art Deco bar of the magnificently refurbished Regal Cinema. …
and thats not all…
The Celebrations will continue on Saturday 10th Nov at 12.00 noon when the Mall Arts Centre, will become the venue for the first ever “Movie Memories Roadshow”. The Mall Arts Centre invites you to step back into the past and share your cinema-going memories in their innovative “Memory Booth” . You will learn much about the rich history of film making in Youghal, see rare footage of the town of Youghal and browse through archive videos, images and written memories of nights at the cinema.
Movie Memories is funded by Creative Ireland Cork County Council/University College Cork
