Formed by John Philip Murray back in 2013, Filology is a flexible, Cork-based Jazz combo like no other and Yew Wood Venues, is thrilled to welcome Filology to The Mall Arts Centre, their premier seafront concert and arts venue.

Individual members of this band have wide musical experience and have performed with top local, national, and international performers. As “Filology”, they have performed at the Cork Jazz Festival, Limerick Jazz Festival and a number of other impressive gigs together with having a residency at Counihan’s, Cork.
Piano: Brian Priestley – Brian has played with most of the top international musicians from the 1960’s, as well as leading his own ensembles during the 1980/90’s, before settling in Ireland in the early 2000’s. As well as being a first-rate pianist, he has written biographies of some of the leading jazz innovators, including, Charlie Parker and Charles Mingus. He writes for Jazzwise magazine and broadcasts ‘That’s Jazz’ on Radio Kerry. Brian has played with Filology for several years now – other recent gigs include John Daly Quartet, Tom Harrell trio.
Double Bass: Michael O’Riordan – A well-regarded player of jazz and classical musician, Michael plays comfortably in a wide variety of musical styles. He has played with some of the cream of Irish and international musicians and regularly plays with the house band for the prestigious Jazz Improv at Crane Lane Theatre, Cork. He has played with Filology for several years
Drums: John Philip Murray – John Philip has played with most of the top Irish jazz musicians since the 1970’s.
