William Matthes (1920-2004), known locally as Billy, lived in Youghal all his life. He had a passion and an amazing talent for filmmaking. He spent years filming all the hustle and bustle of his town in the 1960’s. This incredible film collection is a touching and nostalgic snapshot of life, places, faces and events from the past. The collection has been generously donated to Cork County Library by the late Billy’s family. Youghal Library is delighted to be able to share this marvellous exhibition of film for the first time in its entirety with the community in an upcoming exhibition in Youghal Library.
The collection will launch on Saturday August 6th at 12pm (everybody is welcome to attend) and will continue to be exhibited at Youghal Library until Friday September 30th.
