This, the final screening will take place at The Mall Arts Centre, Youghal, Co. Cork on February 17th, 2024.
The Gala event is set to entertain audiences of East Cork. It brings County Cork beauty and mysterious intrigue to the Mall Arts Centre Youghal. Filmmaker Brian Stynes will host the evening. The feedback, so far, has been positive! Stynes says, “People don’t only come and watch the films, there seems to be a real desire out there to support what I’m doing”.
The film unfolds during a 1996 road trip around the Irish coast. Where an idyllic journey takes a sinister turn when a death takes place. The bus driver takes on the role of a Poirot. Attempting to unravel the mystery surrounding the passenger’s demise. Take 2 Indie Review compared “Coast Road” to a modern, very Irish answer to Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express”. Describing it as a “part leisurely coastal showcase, part gloomy crime caper.”
“Especially in terms of comedy, the screenplay by Stynes and co-writer Michael O’Dowd definitely hits some impressive high notes,” the Review also noted. The film’s talented ensemble cast, brings out the story of each character, creating a rapturous and quirky experience for the audience.
Stynes also reflects on the tight-knit ensemble. They make up the cast of several of his film projects, spanning a creative career of more than 20 years. In a letter published by the Echo last December, he described how he believes he must ensure that the actors and creative crew get their work shown. Not only because of the rich diversity of his ensemble. But often they put much more time and energy into the projects than what shows up on the payment slip.
“It’s for the audience too,” Brian explains. Reflecting on the impact the widescreen first had on him as a child. His first experience of widescreen is still with him. And while Making the films available to buy online is one part of his project plans. His goal when he set out to do the County Cork tour last autumn was to deliver a film experience to his audience. Much of this comes about in the lively discussion before and after the films screened.
Set around Goleen and Barlycove Beach. “Coast Road” has stunning visuals. Particularly it is the drone shots by Rory Conlon that showcase the wild Irish seascapes.
