Youghal Medieval Festival will make it’s annual return to St. Mary’s College Gardens on Sunday 6th August 2023.
The event returned post-covid, in 2022, with over 12,000 visitors to the event, breaking all previous records. Event organisers this year have promised to reward their loyal attendees with even more quality, wholesome and traditional FREE Family Fun this year! In addition to the Medieval Tented Village of over 30 ‘White Horses Living Society’ Vikings, a series of additional ‘hands on’ activity workshops will be included in the programme this year. The School of Irish Archaeology will arrive in force to deliver not only their ‘Big Dig’ – a replica ‘Viking House’ workshop and excavation designed for children aged 5-12 years, but a whole host of 30 minute workshops! These will include: Viking Coin Striking, bead making, pouch making and of course dagger making!
Woolly Farm Petting Zoo will return with its pet chicks, piglets, lambs, llamas, and Jenny the Donkey will make a special appearance this year! The Birds of Prey as always, a mesmerizing attraction as will all our free face painters, balloon art and of course our arts and crafts section! We will of course keep you well fed with a host of top-quality food from local artisan food suppliers.
Free tours of Youghal Clock Gate Tower and Voices of St. Mary’s Audio Tour in St Mary’s Collegiate Church will once again be on offer as part of this ever-growing festival. This event is organised by Living Youghal (part of the Youghal Socio-Economic Development Group) in conjunction with Cork County Council and sponsored by The Irish Walled Towns Network Heritage Council of Ireland.
