Alistair Brownlee, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Double Olympic Triathlon Champion, winning the men’s race during the inaugural full IRONMAN Ireland, Cork, race in Youghal, East Cork, Ireland, on June 23rd, 2019, hosted by Cork County Council, where over two thousand athletes took part.
Ireland’s first ever full Ironman event took centre stage in Youghal. The inaugural event started with a 180Km bike ride which saw athletes cycling up Youghal’s infamous Windmill Hill twice as the swim was cancelled due to inclement weather. Athletes then took on a 42.2Km run which was a flat, four lap, run through the centre of the historical town of Youghal before crossing the finish line at Greenpark.
