Youghal Strikes Gold Again!

…..on golden sands…how lovely..

By Youghal Tourism Saturday AT 12:37PM

Youghal is no stranger to Gold Medal Status in the Super Valu Tidy Towns competition – this is the 5th year since 2017 that Youghal has achieved Gold Medal standard ( 2020 competition cancelled due to Covid 19 Restrictions)…. Youghal is very much aware of how the competition intensifies each year hence the great air of jubilation at being awarded 354 marks in 2022 –  an increase of 11 points to the score of 2021.  This achievement certainly says so much about the Tidy Town Committee, under the stewardship of Ned Brennan and the myriad of volunteers, supported by Cork County Council, who go out, clad in their appropriate weather gear, be it rain, hail or glorious sunshine and do the stuff that makes Youghal the magnificent Town that we have to-day.   Comhghairdeachas agus Maith sibh go léir!

The  Super Valu Tidy Towns Competition report is vast and makes very interesting and informative reading ,  giving guidance, great encouragement  and compliments to all participants.
e.g.1 “Once again, the colour and standard of maintenance of your green spaces and waterside amenity areas was second to none”
e.g. 2 “We are pleased to read that your committee places a strong focus on awareness raising activities with the publication of  w
ildlife walk map and the hosting of guided wildlife walks this year. While these are considered to be great activities, we would also encourage you to assess their usage and impact”

Speaking with Ned Brennan of Youghal Tidy Towns, he said, “We are absolutely thrilled with the results, but of course this would only be possible with the great support that our group gets from the great communities, volunteers and volunteer groups together with Cork County Council.   New members always welcome!  We look forward to continuing with the enhancement of Youghal Town and you know…. that title of Ireland’s Tidiest Town may not be that far away!

Speaking of the latest result, Helen Mulcahy, Senior Staff Officer of Cork County Council’s East Cork Municipal District said  “Cork County Council and particularly the East Cork Municipal District is  absolutely elated with this result.  We are blessed in Youghal to have such a vibrant Tidy Towns Committee whose motto is simply “Get it done – it’s Youghal we’re talking about here”.   The dedication of all volunteer groups together with workers from Cork County Council and their dogged determination at getting Youghal to be the delightful place that it is, is truly exemplary.  To achieve Gold Medal Status for the 5th time…well it’s simply wonderful.”

Trim Co. Meath was announced as Irelands Tidiest Town by Minister Heather Humphries at an awards ceremony in the RDS on the 28th Oct. ’22.
