St. Mary’s Collegiate Church, in the heart of Youghal, is one of the oldest parish churches still in use anywhere in Ireland.
This year St. Mary’s celebrates 802 years of continuous worship, stretching right back to its foundation in 1220. (The 800th anniversary celebrations were delayed because of the pandemic.) As everyone knows, it is an extraordinary building with so much to see and experience… and an absolute magnet for tourists to East Cork.
On Sunday October 23rd at 3.30pm, everybody is welcome to St. Mary’s Collegiate Church for a special service led by Dr. Paul Colton, Bishop of Cork, Cloyne & Ross, when the preacher will be Archbishop John McDowell, Primate of All Ireland. There will be local representatives, ecumenical guests and visitors from all over the diocese and country present at the service.
“We are thrilled to be marking the 800th anniversary of this extraordinary building with this very special service. We look forward to welcoming, not just the Archbishop, but local representatives and visitors from across the country” said Priest in Charge, Canon Andrew Orr
With so many people attending, admission will be by ticket (Free) only.
Tickets, which are FREE, may be obtained from Church Reception Desk, Crees Card Shop, North Main Street, Youghal, or online from Eventbrite.ie
