Yew Wood Venues is delighted to present one of Bach’s most powerful works – his St. John Passion in the inspiring setting of the medieval St. Mary’s Collegiate Church, Youghal, Co. Cork. The St. John Passion will be sung by soloists from Sestina Ensemble and beloved Cork chamber choir Madrigal ’75, who will be joined by local choirs to sing the Lutheran chorales which punctuate the work, giving us a sense of how Bach’s Thomaskirche in Leipzig would have rung with the sound of his whole congregation singing. The Cork Baroque Orchestra will bring Bach’s St. John Passion to life while bringing the pain and suffering of Christ’s passion as a very human drama, centering around the figure of St. John the Evangelist.
