Youghal Socio-Economic Development Group (Y.S.E.D.G)

…promoting Youghal and its environs in areas of tourism, heritage, enterprise and development…

Youghal Socio-Economic Development Group is an interagency group made up of local, countrywide and regional agencies, set up with the aim of promoting Youghal and its environs in areas including tourism, heritage, enterprise and development.  The Y.S.E.D.G. provides an integrated strategy for Youghal based on a fresh approach to planning Youghal’s future. This approach sees a unique and truly effective structure where key players from the country’s state agencies and other bodies, such as Fáilte Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Local Enterprise Office, SECAD, work with local groups and take responsibility for economic development in Youghal. The objective of the group is that “Youghal become known for its significant international heritage, high quality and accessible natural amenities, its hosting of large scale cultural arts events and its warm and informed welcome in shops and hotels” thus making Youghal a desirable place in which to live, work, visit and ultimately invest.

The many projects on which YSEDG has played leading and ongoing roles include the restoration and re-opening of the Youghal Clock Gate Tower, restoration of Youghal’s historic Town Walls, on-going and tourism promotion of restoration of St Mary’s Collegiate Church,  Youghal’s eco-boardwalk together with the branding of the “Raleigh Quarter”.  The YSEDG in conjunction with Cork County Council is also playing an integral roll in the Midleton/Youghal (MY) Greenway.
